Cabin Trip

Jeremy and I have been going to East Texas and renting a cabin every year for the past five years. The first time we went was December 2003. We had just found out I was pregnant with Colby and had not told anyone yet (we waited to surprise everyone at Christmas). It was such a fun little trip! We were both so excited about our little secret we shared...it was such a special time in our lives. We stayed in the cutest little cabin by a small lake surrounded by trees. We decided we would take our children back there someday.

The next year our cute little cabin was booked so we found another cabin called Beyond the Bayou. We were sure that this cabin wouldn't compare to the first one but when we arrived we were in awe. The cabin was the coziest little place and it couldn't have been in a more beautiful spot. The owners were wonderful people and they had recorded the history of every piece of wood they used to build their peaceful retreat. Jeremy and I decided this was the place we would definitely bring our kids every year.
Last year, when Colby was three, we took him for the first time to Beyond the Bayou. He loved every minute of it! He caught his first fish in the fishing pond and was so proud. He made friends with a dog named Boogie. Colby was in heaven! He definitely got his love for the outdoors from his daddy!

A couple months ago I called to book Beyond the Bayou for our annual trip and sadly the owners informed us that their beloved cabin had burned down. Jeremy and I were upset by the news but when we told Colby his response was "that's ok, Mommy. We can go to another cabin". He learned at a young age that cabins catch fire easily : ) We found another cabin to rent this year and went a couple weekends ago. Jeremy, Colby and I had a great time. Carson stayed with Mimi and Papa but will join us next year when he is three. The cabin was not as warm and inviting as Beyond the Bayou, but it was nice. It had a wonderful view. We rented a boat and went out on Caddo Lake on Saturday. We searched for alligators, but didn't see any. Colby was a little disappointed, but he quickly got over it. We went into the small town of Jefferson and had lunch. We also drove to Shreveport on Saturday night. It was nice to spend time with Colby alone. He sometimes is deprived attention because he is so easy going and not as demanding as his little brother. Colby is such a sweet boy and so smart. I know he enjoyed our little trip and is already looking forward to next year.
